Suzanne Stuart Davies

Artist, Maker

I am a painter. Observation combines with memory and imagination and is shaped and influenced by poetry, history, philosophy and the work of other artists and writers.  Colour and form and surface qualities are important preoccupations. There is always a sequence - one work in a series leading into another. I trained at Liverpool College of Art. I also have a degree in art history and philosophy. I have worked alongside scientists and land managers in nature conservation and this, in turn, has changed the way I see landscape.

Winter knitting. I use the colours and patterns based on the Fair Isle and Shetland traditions, using Shetland 2ply wool in two colour rows, which are adapted and may refer to ongoing themes in my work as a painter.

New work planned for 2016 will focus on a theme of transformations, concentrating on walking the turning year in Galloway and other parts of Scotland and Northern England: notes, photographs and studies for individual books, leading to series of paintings.
