A number of theorists have recently noted that all members of society, both impoverished and privilege are suffering from a lack of belonging. In addition to a perceived loss of place artists frequently describe a lack of belonging: uncertain of their function in society. The search for identity and community and the longing for an ideal of home ‘for some place to stand, for something to hang onto’ (Lippard, 1995) is being considered within my current practice. The use of a simple androgynous drawing communicates a physical connection or disconnection. To consider how we communicate with one another, to explore and question the interaction between artist, audience and subject; to investigate personal space, interact within a building and an environment, hold a challenge for discussion and the exchange of ideas. read full statement
