A number of theorists have recently noted that all members of society, both impoverished and privilege are suffering from a lack of belonging. In addition to a perceived loss of place artists frequently describe a lack of belonging: uncertain of their function in society. The search for identity and community and the longing for an ideal of home β€˜for some place to stand, for something to hang onto’ (Lippard, 1995) is being considered within my current practice. The use of a simple androgynous drawing communicates a physical connection or disconnection. To consider how we communicate with one another, to explore and question the interaction between artist, audience and subject; to investigate personal space, interact within a building and an environment, hold a challenge for discussion and the exchange of ideas. read full statement
