Nick Clark

Newcastle upon Tyne
I make paintings and teach Art part-time.

Painting: I am interested in the idea of how working with more traditional concerns and media - abstract painting... on a canvas... hung on a wall... (some sort of) aesthetic decision making... an awareness of the history of painting (including current practice) - can open up a critical space in an orthodoxy of expanded practices. Criticality can be directed (as always) to painting itself, it's status as A/art - is it art/is it anti-art/does it even matter...?

At present, I tend towards still being bothered to do it.

Any titles are there for means of identification; there is no intention for a title to suggest any 'meaning', although a viewer could always do this...

When working, I am concerned with issues, such as, brush size and hand/arm movement in relation to the size of the area I am working on and whether I want to actually look at the things I make.
