My practice focuses on the role of personal experience within painting. I am fascinated by how painting can communicate emotionally fuelled memories and evoke feelings of familiarity. My paintings frequently relate to a sense of place and the experiences that I have had there throughout my life. Although at times, these expressions can be articulated, they are often defy verbal communication and rely on an unique and immersive experience between myself and the paint. I make my own oil and acrylic paint through using raw pigment and I often focus on the textures, colours and varying transparencies of the paint to drive my work.

I have recently completed a PhD which investigated the synergies between my own painting practice and the experiences of painting for people living with dementia. I am inspired by the way painting can form non verbal lines of communication and I am constantly exploring how the knowledge of an artist can be used to develop new approaches that can be used within the field of Arts in Health.
