Location: Crypt Gallery, St.Ives, Cornwall

Mary Fletcher, from St Ives, is going to exhibit her group of works about experiencing infertility. ’Misconceptions’. This includes a floor sculpture: a calendar made with stones that shows 20 years during which she hoped to have a child. There are pages of a book made using contributions from other childless women, a video using sounds from Exeter Museum's now dismantled clock room and paintings that explore her continuing feelings as she became too old to conceive. It's not the usual sort of work shown in the Crypt but Mary hopes to draw a new audience for this theme, to give recognition for the sadness of those who want children but are not lucky enough to have them, and to help others empathise with this often unexpressed pain. The art historian Katy Deepwell selected this group of works for an online feminist exhibition on axisweb alongside some very well known women artists.
