Lucy Ward explores the territory shared by mathematical systems of pattern construction, the philosophical work of Lefebvre's Rhythmanalysis and in Deleuze's Difference and Repetition by rendering her own everyday activity as surface pattern. The intricate drawings map the occurrence of anticipated and repeated events in regularly ordered 2D space intimating a friction between ideal pattern and repetitive behaviour in our everyday experience. Lucy gained a degree in Physics and Maths from the University of Bristol before going on to gain a first class BA (Hons) in Drawing and Applied Arts form UWE, and an MA in Drawing from Camberwell College of Art. Recent work includes private commissions, solo and group exhibitions including: Marginalia, MTS Gallery, Alaska, Drawing Room II, RWA, Bristol, The Here Gallery, Bristol and Decima, London. Lucy is a visiting lecturer at UWE School of Creative Arts and a drawing tutor at the ICIA, Bath University. Lucy lives in Bristol. read full statement
