Louisa Parker

I think of my work as sculptural, although it takes many forms. My work is multi sensory, I use sound, performance, installation, drawing, books and objects in an attempt to engage the viewer in a physical relationship with the work. I try to draw attention to the act of participation and mine for emotional effect. My work can be atmospheric and unsettling and sometimes hovers around the overwhelming. I also write cultural reviews for blogging sites, I have published an essay about art and trauma and I have engaged in research through practice. I am in the process of writing a graphic novel, based on my experience of growing up in the violent and misogynistic Yorkshire of the late seventies and early eighties. Becoming/Unbecoming tells the tale of Una, an unseen, unheard, unnoticed girl who wanders through a dark landscape, looking for justice. This autobiographical fiction takes place during the hunt for Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper. read full statement
