Artist Statement

I am inspired by the natural world, and my motivation is to express a sense of wonder through art. Details of plant, stone or water find their way into abstract paintings of deceptive simplicity. The landscape and skies of Britain in all seasons provide inspiration for atmospheric paintings. The main body of my work is in oils using a particular blending technique on carefully prepared canvas. I also work in mixed media, printmaking, and create works on paper.

1993-4 Artist in Residence at Lingfield Primary School with fellow artist Jeannine Young
(Placement project for BA (hons) CSM)

1999 Created ‘Tree’ sculpture at the entrance to Lingfield Community Centre as part of a Rural Arts Project in Surrey with fellow artist Jeannine Young

2001 Attended Lantern-making course with Strange Cargo in Folkestone. Worked with Tandridge Community Arts to provide workshops in schools resulting in ‘Streets and Skies’ lantern processions.

2001-2002 City & Guilds 7307 Stages 1 and 2, East Surrey College, Surrey – Qualification to teach Adults and Post-16 year-olds.

2002-2004 Taught Saturday morning ‘Junior Art School’ for 11 to 16 year olds at Reigate School of Art, East Surrey College with fellow artist Christine Tanner

2001-2016 Taught ‘Adventurous Mixed Media Art’ class for Adult Education in Bletchingley, Surrey until Adult Education Centre closed, then taught the class privately in Reigate, Surrey.
