Biography

We fear the destruction of order; 'of things that are outside or beneath recognition.' (Susan Hiller, 1995, 'Beyond Control', Frieze Magazine.) Destruction is highly unpredictable. The uncertainty of a powerful and overwhelming event can generate fear and wonder. We can feel compelled to watch these very sudden and devastating occurrences. As much as we are drawn to scenes of violence, something that is deeply horrifying can be equally beautiful. In addition, an in depth investigation is undertaken to isolate specific imagery depicting overpowering and unexpected phenomena. Elements are manipulated, juxtaposed and blurred together, where it is no longer possible to separate the unreal from the real.
