Kathy Ramsay Carr

I am an abstract landscape painter. My paintings are of spatial landscape which evoke a sense of peace and timelessness. Light and colour play a large part to create an atmosphere of solitude and contemplation.

The canvas is built up slowly in transparent layers of paint to portray water, land and sky, often over layers of gesso and wax. Much of my inspiration comes from walking along the coastlines
of northern Cornwall, Devon, Wales and Scotland.

Living in Mexico eight years and being fully integrated in the language and culture, having trained as a graphic designer, I can work well to deadlines. Now in recent years I am more influenced by nature and walking along coastlines and on Dartmoor. Favourite painter: Peter Lanyon

I studied graphic design, printmaking and illustration at Bath Academy of Art from 1971 to 1975. I worked in Mexico City from 1976 to 1984 as a graphic designer and illustrator in a design company, a few years later becoming Head of Graphic Design in the Cultural Institute of the National University of Mexico. I returned to the UK in 1984 and have been painting since.

I exhibit widely in the UK and have worked to commission for both private and corporate clients as well as art consultancies.
