The Corinthian order is the most ornate, elegant and feminine of the three principal classical orders of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. It is characterised by slender columns and elaborate capitals decorated with acanthus leaves and scrolls. In the garden of the ‘Summer House’, Whitstable, a large acanthus plant grows. Nearby and in contrast to its natural, thriving counterpart, the man made Dark Matter: Corinthian Column stands and eventually collapses over the course of the exhibition.
