Having lived in Wolverhampton all my life, derelict buildings and overgrown urban landscapes are a familiar sight. The graffiti that can often be found in these areas is usually a stark contrast to the natural growth and decay, and it is here that I find my inspiration for working with the juxtaposition of texture, and colour.
I use tufted wool surfaces to represent shapes and identify areas of interest and have developed a wide range of pieces that can live outdoors or in. They can be installed on walls or on the ground, interspersed with natural, living colour and texture. Some are designed to grow and decay with the landscape; others can be used as an accent to a space or simply as a decorative piece. The attention to detail in choice of material, scale and composition are what bring my body of work together.
