I am a photographic artist working primarily within the landscape. Central to my practice is the idea of the photograph as a two dimensional slice of history and its function in relation to the progression of time. I'm interested in how past events and traces become visible or are suggested within the photograph and the way in which memory acts as a filter to how the past is represented. Often I take cues about how history and past events can be viewed from the fields of forensic science and archaeology. I work in series using large format and historic photographic techniques such as the wet plate collodion process and have recently begun exploring working with daguerrotypes. The use of historic photographic techniques in my practice is key in attempting to distort the linear structure of time within my photographs and creating a sense of confusion within the viewer about the age and authenticity of my images. read full statement
