Jenny Matthews

Creation is a constant inspiration: plants, insects, landscapes and gardens. I work in watercolour, combining traditional watercolour techniques with more painterly, semi-abstract backgrounds. I enjoy the traditional skills of watercolour while at the same time pushing its boundaries. The paint itself is what excites me most about painting. Dame Elizabeth Blackadder has been especially influential as my tutor at Edinburgh College of Art for 3 years. Durer for his plant studies and portraits. I studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1982-1986, graduating with BA (Hons) Drawing and Painting. I have been a professional painter since 1986, exhibiting regularly around the UK, taking part in over 100 group exhibitions, including Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and Royal Watercolour Society London, and had many solo exhibitions.
