Focusing on her own interactions with her home and her surroundings, Lees creates performative situations with everyday objects within her home. Areas of protection are transformed into uncanny environments, that become confined in a confused state of what is the home and what is beyond. The ‘here’ and the ‘there’ are intertwined, and our boundaries become boundless. In these corners anxieties arise because of the space that lays in-between, these anxieties get held within Lees’ photographs. Elements of the outside become elements of the inside in a world where two spaces collide.
Jade Jamean Lees (b.1993) is currently based at OUTPOST Studios, Norwich and has been the Head of Aesthetics at OUTPOST Steering Committee since 2017.
