The work made for Waterside’s 1-0 micro-commission was started during a residency at Brisons Veor in Cornwall by the artist Henny Burnett and photographer Martin Urmson. The rock pools in Priest’s Cove were the primary focus for both artists. Martin Urmson focused on taking colour images, using a portable photo studio to control the light. Henny Burnett made monochrome photogram portraits of the wide variety of local seaweed, such as landlady’s wig and bladder wrack. Both artists aimed to capture the jewel-like qualities of the rock pools. Their two bodies of work were combined to make the video Rockpools and the digital images called “Seaweed Vignettes” for the Waterside Arts Centre.
