Helen Kaplinsky

I'm a curator and writer based in London. Over the last 2 years I've produced content on multiple platforms including Flat Time House (London), Spike Island (Bristol), Sideshow of the British Arts Show 7 and Bury Text Festival working with a commitment to supporting new commissions. I'v has worked internationally introducing emerging British artists to eastern markets and am select. ac curator at Arts Council Collection. I have given talks for Goldsmiths College gallery, Salford University and London School of Dance, written articles and produced radio programmes for many artists and organisations including Resonance FM and Artsadmin among others. I've mostly curate programmes in collaboration with emerging artists in event based experimental formats, commissioning new work. Recently I have expanded my expertise into collections as I'm currently completing an exhibition formed of works from the Arts Council Collection, an opportunity awarded to one curatorial post graduate student in the UK every two years. Exhibitions I curate are treated as projects, expanding beyond the static gallery display to encompass research, debate, and events. Since establishing my curatorial practice over the past few years my focus has been for an exhibition to be constantly performing and bringing members of the artistic community and public together to have a difficult conversation about the interpretations and complicity of artistic practices in the wider world. The field of contemporary art is exhaustive and I consciously look for artists for whom the art object alone is not enough. read full statement
