Eleanor SymmsArtist, Maker, Lecturer / academic
Eleanor Symms works in different areas of practice, from printmaking and artist’s books to textiles, installation and jewellery. She is interested in the physical world of materials and objects, as well as in the world of ideas. Her current work in jewellery design responds to 'found' and non-precious materials, combining these with precious metals and gem stones and challenging notions of preciousness and disposability.
Eleanor graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with Distinction in 2012. She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including the International Craft Biennale, Cheongju, South Korea, 2013, International Print Biennale, Douro, Portugal in 2012 and she was the winner of the Fashion and Textiles Award in Inspired By… 2010 at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Her work is in a number of public collections: National Library of Scotland, Artists' Books and Special Bindings Collection; Printmaking Museum of Douro, Biennial Collection, Portugal; Scottish Borders Council, Fine Art Collection and the Scottish Poetry Library.
