Eleanor Symms

Concepts My current interests are in exploring ideas in response to found materials, particularly old maps, dictionaries and artefacts which connect with shared experience of recent history. I make prints, mainly etchings and collagraphs and I also make artist's books, printing and binding my own work to make visual books and working in collaboration with poets. My interest in this area has developed mainly because it offers other ways to create and present my work; an interactive alternative to two-dimensional works in frames. I have a strong interest in text and writing, as well as in visual images, and making artist's books presents a whole range of opportunities to bring these areas together. More recently, I have also been exploring various textile media and developing work which is three dimensional.
