Corrina Rothwell

I am a Nottingham-based artist and illustrator originally from Rochdale. Inspired by the ordinary things in life, my work is quirky and contemporary with a refreshing take on modern life. Liberally dosed with wordplay, humour and imagination, my work combines words with pictures. It's equally important for me to come up with exactly the right words for a picture as it is to get the image right. Increasingly I'm using manipulated photographs in my work, creating digital collages. I use a graphics tablet to create my images which are then realised as prints and greeting cards. My work has a broad appeal across the age spectrum and is simultaneously accessible and slightly unconventional. In addition to my illustrative work, I have recently started painting again, something I haven't done for many years. I'm finding it a welcome addition to my practice in that it's so radically different from working at the computer. Also it's giving me the opportunity to express a different side of my creativity without feeling I have to make people laugh. I'm very much looking forward to exploring the possibilities of paint and hopefully building up a body of work worthy of exhibition. read full statement
