Caron Penney

Caron Penney’s career in textiles is approaching thirty years and encompasses both education and studio practice. As an educator she is affiliated with institutions such as the Fashion and Textiles Museum, Hauser & Wirth Somerset, Morley College and West Dean College. Penney worked for West Dean Tapestry Studio for twenty-two years and was the Director and then a Consultant for the final five and a half years. She contributed to Tapestry - A Woven Narrative publish in 2011 and Authenticity and Replication: the ‘Real Thing’ in Art and Art Conservation, in 2014.

In 2013 Penney opened her own atelier, naming it Ateliers Weftfaced, here she makes her own tapestries and has been exhibiting nationally, at the National Centre for Craft and Design, the Holburne Museum, the MAC Birmingham and Contemporary Applied Arts (CAA) throughout 2016 & 2017. In 2016 she was selected as a member for the CAA, and in 2017 she was co-opted to the committee for the 62 Group of Textile Artists. In 2016/17 she has been working on a new series of works, ‘The Streets of Paved with Gold’ and ‘Golden Intersections’ the later are currently on show at the CAA.
