Carla Moss

Artist, Maker

My work is about our relationship with the environment, our impact on it and its impact on us. It's beauty and mystery. The vastness of this subject matter; the philosophical, historical, spiritual, sociological and physical issues on which it operates gives me an unending source of inspiration and continual exploration into the interdependence of life. John-David Bartoe (Astronaut) said; "As I looked down, I saw a large river meandering slowly along for miles, passing from one country to another without stopping. I also saw huge forests, extending along several borders. And I watched the extent of one ocean touch the shores of separate continents. Two words leaped to mind as I looked down on all this: commonality and interdependence. We are one world." And Sultan bin Salman Al-Saud said; "The first day or so we all pointed to our countries. The third or fourth day we were pointing to our continents. By the fifth day, we were aware of only one Earth". Every breath we take is impacting our surroundings in some way. This translates into my work by carefully chosen materials. It is process driven, beginning with an observation or experience and then worked into paintings, drawings or 3d objects. The ongoing relationship between the materials I'm working with and the artwork that is produce is a constant conversation. The work teaches me about itself as I make it and it teaches me about life. read full statement
