My work presents points of collision between cultures and cultural phenomenon.
My roots are Diasporic. Myself, I was South African Born, my family's history - like many, involves tales of deterritorialization, migration, displacement and assimilation
My practice is multiplicitous, I present an ongoing exploration, a type of meta-anthropology- Presenting a broad sweep of culture(s), conglomerations of many themes, histories and ideas (from natural/world/art histories, language and media).
I am interested in mediated experience of the everyday, in-particular collisions brought about by the clashing of language and cultures caused by the workings of societal machines. These Machines include the idea machines of the zeitgeist, super-hybridity, hegemony, banality and notions of globalisation and the role they play in affecting our ideas and daily lives. I reflect and inflect histories, real or otherwise
Ive watched a lot of telly, read some books, both text books and novels, seen films, been places. There are many archetypes employed in my works. The work like myself is playful and reactionary and somewhat autobiographical I am very much interested in our experience both mediated and real.
