A series of painted works exploring the obsessiveness of repetitive surface accretion of colour. Predating the intricate treatment of later sculptural works as a means of engaging in a process of looking, these works take on a modernist approach of abstraction in which C19th optical mixing theory is the protagonist. Geometric structures are used to contain colours and heighten the tension resulting from their visual interactions. The paintings look at how obsessive control undermines the very aim the process sets out to achieve resulting in a sense of unease.
