Alexandra Shorey

My work is about the relationship I have with horses: how they make me feel, their movements and forms of communication. I strive to capture the emotional sensitivity of the animal through body language and gesture. Sculpting my horses takes me to a place of memory, hooves, muzzles, and long days shared with my childhood horses. I love the grace and elegance of the horse, beauty, fragility and their connectedness to wilderness and days gone by. I work with mixed media to draw the process of making into my experience of each individual piece. I am not a fan of reproductions, as each horse must develop its own unique character from skeleton to skin. read full statement
