Two Birds, 2005

Two Birds, 2005

'My practice presents a mass of ambiguous truths and the blatantly invented, offering blurred boundaries of curiosity and torment and the blessed and the cursed. Drawing manifests itself upon paper or the manipulation of found objects, all displayed unprotected, offering no evident elevation of status from conception to display. Within these works the mundane and the spectacular are levelled out to exist on the same plane which is echoed in the rawness of the presentation any hierarchy between individual pieces is removed.

Each drawing is created in its own right and can exist as an isolated sketch or can allow itself to be absorbed into the whole body of works contributing to the disjointed narratives that occur within.'

Rachel Goodyear is an emerging artist, making a significant contribution to the Manchester art scene since completing her BA Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2000. She makes drawings on whatever paper is to hand, usually with biro, occasionally with pencil, often tinged with a melancholic and macabre sensibility. Goodyear also curates, and is now part of floating ip gallery with co-artist/directors Dave Beech, James Hutchinson and Graham Parker.

Since graduating she has exhibited regularly in the UK including the Pizza Express Prospects drawing exhibition, Joy at International 3 Manchester, and across Europe including France and Germany.

Goodyear was selected for the Mostyn Open 2005 (Oriel Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno), and her debut UK solo show is on now at The International 3, Manchester entitled We will cancel your membership and you will owe us nothing (7 May - 5 June 2005).
