Finding an artist or curator
Q. How do I search for an artist or curator?
A. Axis offers a variety of ways to search. You can search for artists, curators, artworks, events and generally across the whole site. For artists, curators, artworks and events we collect key pieces of information which appear as 'filter' lists on the right hand side of the search pages. For instance you can filter out artists who live in a particular part of the country or by what type of artwork they create. You can also carry out 'free text' searches which look for all instances of that word or phrase that appear in these sections. If you know the name of the artist or curator you can use the 'quick search' box which appears at the top right of our site or use the A-Z listing of artists. We also have a general 'site search' which searches across all our content.

Contacting an artist or curator through the site
Q. How do I contact an artist or curator?
A. When you are on the artist or curator page there is a 'contact' tab on the right hand side and also a 'contact' button at the top of their page. Click on either of these to be taken to a 'contact form', complete all the necessary details and submit the form. We will then forward your information on to the artist/curator who will respond.
Q. The 'contact' option isn't available for the artist/curator I want to contact – why is this?
A. If the 'contact' option isn't available on an artist/curator's page then they have either chosen not to be contacted or we do not hold valid contact details for them.
Q. How do I contact a lot of artists at the same time?
A. Instead of using the individual 'contact' buttons on the artist page, you can add artists to your favourites – you can then view this list and select to contact all of them.
Q. Is there another way I can contact an artist or curator?
A. Many artists and curators have their own website which may be listed on their Axis pages; these should contain contact details. If they don't have a website you can try searching for them on Google (tip: enter quote marks around their name – e.g “John Smith”).

Different areas and features of the site
Q. What do 'directory', 'selected' and 'dialogue' mean?
A. Directory is where we list information on artists, curators, artworks and events. You can conduct specific searches from this page. Selected and Dialogue are areas of the site which highlight our different activities. Artists and curators are selected to appear in the 'Selected' area either by Axis staff or our teams of high profile artists, curators or writers. 'Dialogue' takes a critical look at artistic practice with reviews, interviews and writing and also live events that stimulate discussion about contemporary art.
Q. Why can't I see the opportunities section of the site?
A. Only Directory members can access the opportunities section. You can apply to be listed on our artist and curator directories – please go to our membership page for further information and to apply online.
Q. Is there an easy way to send people links to my favourite pages on the website?
A. We have a 'send to a friend' facility for artist and curator pages where you can email a link to up to three of your friends. We will be introducing the 'send to a friend' facility to more areas of the Axis site in the near future. If you are an artist or curator on Axis, you can also send a profile link to your friends - sign in and look for the 'promote your profile' section.
Q. How do I store a list of my favourite artists?
A. At the top of every artist page there is an 'add to favourites' link - you can then access your saved artists by clicking 'favourites' at the top of every page (you need to be signed in). You can use the favourites area to contact a group of artists.
Q. How do I subscribe/unsubscribe from the monthly e-bulletin?
A. Sign in and click 'your subscription preferences' - either tick or untick the e-bulletin box. You can also choose to receive the e-bulletin in plain text or HTML format.
