Float, 2005
For his MA exhibition Nim showed three videos. In 'Untitled', 2006 he is featured as a solitary, strident walker towards a romantic sunset. In 'Kunstparameter' he is a runner on a journey while in 'Float' he films through a car windscreen as the car is transported across a river. The journey is important, as is the performance element. Chung re-thinks the purpose of video (you can download it from anyone), questions issues of 'the moment', our position between art tourism and art. The viewer is left to reflect on the romanticism, its opposite, and also the degree of parody in these works. They show singular direction yet a sense of searching as these excellent (and often beautiful) works unfold.
