Photo-etchings produced by Margaret Ashman are at once striking and endowed with presence. Simply described, they are lone figures or groups of figures in dialogue; in dialogue with themselves or with their reflections. The quality and depth of these works are simply beautiful. They are plain black and white etchings with no visible detail or immediate characteristics; nonetheless they convey velvet textures, atmosphere and intimacy. They appear to be suspended moments in time and as the viewer you are frozen in time, as if by magic. The production and presentation of these works are at a very high standard indeed.
