Five2Watch: Peformance

Axisweb has selected five artworks featuring contemporary artists who work with Performance: Evgenia Emets, Alison Lloyd, Rutter and Bennett, Rachel Gomme and Linda Persson.

Evgenia Emets

Black Friday performance, 2016

While residing in big city one cannot help but respond to the madness to stay sane. This performance came together spontaneously, but also after years of observing people reading papers on the underground. The night of the performance coincided with Black Friday hence the title. I was excited to deliver something which allowed people to hear their voice and meditate upon everyday as poetry, mantra, prayer, noise, vocal reflection.

Alison Lloyd

Act One - One Act, 2017

Rachel Madgeburg and I walked the gallery space while I documented our movements through out the morning. Pacing the space, empty of anything other than ourselves, our rucksacks, my outdoor walking paraphernalia (rucksack, vacuum flask, compass, and my camera equipment. We reflected on our indoor walking in the gallery space and our own memories of installing exhibitions and invigilating shows.

Rutter and Bennett

Gunfighter Performance, 2017

As part of the ‘Gunfighter’ project we collaborated with Tim and Nicola of Genetic Moo, in which the sculpture interacted with their computer programmes, which were projected inside the Limbo Arts space in Margate as part of their Wellcome Trust video project. We brought along another wearable sculpture ‘Keeper of the Patterns’ as well. The sculptures were animated by Katie, Marianne and Chris.

Rachel Gomme

Second Skin, 2017

Wearing a dress covered with many pockets, I roam the beach, picking up stones and putting them in my pockets. Gradually the weight of the stones alters my weight, until I can no longer walk and crawl out of the dress.

Linda Persson

The Green Room, after Henning all the cage is the stage 2016

The performance piece The Green Room: after Henning, all the cage is the stage focuses on transformation, to be in transit and exist within different time aspects and beings. The performance takes place there and then, and at the same time it exists as a reference for the future through a ‘green screen’, a room for digital form and as an invisibility filter for different screen-based futures.
