Meet the Collectors: A Private Affair

The exhibition 'A Private Affair: Personal Collections of Contemporary Art' take place at The Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston, 28 January - 5 May 2012. Curated in collaboration with the Contemporary Art Society, the exhibtion features work by emerging and established artists, owned by private collectors in the North of England. To find out more, we interview three of the collectors who have generously loaned work for the exhibition.

About the exhibition

Lindsay Taylor (Exhibitions Officer at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery) and Mark Doyle (Head of Collector Development at the Contemporary Art Society North West) introduce us to the exhibition 'A Private Affair: Personal Collections of Contemporary Art', explaining the ideas behind it and what will be on display.

Greville Worthington 

Greville Worthington has over thirty years experience of collecting. As he shows us around his collection, we talk to him about how his passion for collecting began and he discusses work by Paul Etienne Lincoln, Hamish Fulton and Langlands & Bell.

Sezgin Ismail

In our interview with Sezgin she talks about her interest in narrative-driven works with examples by Iain Andrews and Henny Acloque. Explaining how she started her collection, Sezgin explains the importance of the Contemporary Art Society.

Mark Turner

Preston-based GP Mark Turner has over 300 works in his collection - even he describes his collecting as 'an addiction'. Here he talks about the work he particularly likes to collect and shows us work by Gordon Cheung and Liam Spencer - the first work he ever purchased.

See the exhibition

'A Private Affair: Personal Collections of Contemporary Art' takes place at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Preston, 27 January - 5 May 2012.

Artists featured in the exhibition include: Tracey Emin, Spencer Tunick, Rachel Whiteread and Ian Hamilton Finlay and emerging northern-based artists such as Haroon Mirza and Samantha Donnelly.

Entrance to the exhibition and the museum is free. Opening times are Monday 11am-5pm, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm.
