Gillian McIver interviews Nazir Tanbouli

Nazir Tanbouli, 36, was born and educated in Alexandria, Egypt. His work is based mainly in drawing and encompasses a range of 2D works, including mural painting and large scale drawing as well as video animation and installation. Since moving to the UK Tanbouli has has a number of exhibitions in the East Midlands. He has participated in diverse group shows and also collaborates with other artists, including video artists SDNA. He is currently a recipient of an Arts Council England grant to produce a series of new works on the theme of 'Metamorphoses'.

'At the beginning of 2001, when I was screening some films at a show in Alexandria, I met Nazir Tanbouli and saw his work for the first time. Since he moved to the UK in 2002, we have worked together on several projects with the Luna Nera group. I met Nazir while he was setting up his new studio in Hackney, East London.'
