Advertising on Axis

If you’ve visited Axis recently, you’ll have noticed that there is a lot more advertising on the site. This is because we have joined The Guardian Ad Network.

Like all arts organisations we’re under pressure to become less dependent on public subsidy, even although we were lucky enough to secure long-term funding from Arts Council England in the recent ‘NPO’ application process.

In a difficult economic climate we don’t want to increase our membership fees for artists, so we are looking for other ways of generating income.

Internet advertising now accounts for nearly 20% of all advertising spend in Europe and is widely recognised as one of the few ways in which digital organisations can ‘monetise’ their offer.

Until now, advertising on Axis has always related to the visual arts, but we realise that the Guardian Ad Network introduces something entirely new. We hope you will bear with us as we see how it goes. Rest assured that the Guardian ads will not appear on individual artists’ pages.

As always, we welcome your views about these and other developments on Axis. Please contact us by emailing feedback@axisweb.org.
