With its close-knit artists' community and tailored programme of professional support, there is nowhere else quite like the Florence Trust. Axis is delighted to be supporting its second year-long residency there, following Maya Ramsay's positive experience as the first recipient of the Axis/Florence Trust bursary. Hanae is an exceptionally interesting artist, who is about to embark on a new body of work in response to recent events in Japan. We will follow her progress with enormous interest.
Hanae will be starting her 12 month residency at The Florence Trust in August 2011 and we will be documenting her time there.
The 2010 recipient of the award is Maya Ramsay. Maya has a funded studio space at the Florence Trust, London, which will allow her time and space, free of other pressures, to create a new body of work. Maya's residency began in August 2010 and will continue until the end of July 2011, when all the studio-holders will show their work in a final exhibition.
Application for the Axis/Florence Trust Award was open to 2009's MAstars artists only. Axis has made a two year commitment to the award and so we will also be offering 2010's MAstars artists the opportunity of a Florence Trust residency in 2011. Normal application to Florence Trust residency is, of course, open to any artist.
