Role at Axis
I lead on the delivery of digital services and strategy for Axisweb, developing innovative digital products (with colleagues) for our external partners to support artists, art professionals and arts organisations in promoting what they do. I also manage our team of developers, and have a central role in the continued development of the new Axis website.
Background
I joined Axisweb in June 2012, bringing with me over ten years' experience in digital design, development, management and delivery for a range of public and commercial organisations.
I began my career as a practising stained glass artist, running a small studio in the centre of Sheffield with a partner, producing work to commission and creating smaller bespoke pieces which we sold nationally and internationally through fairs and exhibitions in Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham and London.
I retrained in Design Communications in the late 1990’s when my interest in computers and digital design got the better of me, and have progressed my career ever since in web and digital. Most recently this has included a role in the central web team at the University of Salford, developing the corporate website and leading on digital campaigns for high profile events.
I am currently completing the final year of a Masters in Design Management.
Websites I like...
The Apple site for its sheer elegance, Google Maps and Street View (I like maps!), and the BBC News iPhone app for its ease of use, reliability and the way stories are automatically stored to the device so they can still be read when going through a train tunnel!

Most useful technology...
Currently my portable USB power pack, which allows me to replenish my iPhone battery after a day’s exhaustive usage anytime, anywhere!
