Lesley Guy, Content Curator

Lesley Guy
Content Curator

Role at Axis
I joined Axisweb in 2012. My role as Content Curator is to commission and curate content for the site, editing the webzine features and the Rant. I am really excited about exploring artist-led activity and hope to develop an audio podcast.

Background
I am an artist, writer and curator. After graduating from my Fine Art degree in 1999 I went into teaching, which I enjoyed very much until I realised that I'd hardly set foot in the studio for five years. This was when I went back to University to complete an MA in Contemporary Fine Art. During this time I started writing art reviews for Metro and began working for Bloc Projects, a contemporary art space in Sheffield. I now make sure that I spend as much time as I can in the studio but I still enjoy engaging with other people’s work.

Favourite art place...
This would have to be Bloc Projects in Sheffield, after that it’s the Laing in Newcastle, for the John Martins and then the Yorkshire Sculpture Park because you can eat your packed lunch on a Henry Moore (even though you’re not supposed to!).

Most useful technology...
I use my i-phone a lot, playing Sudoku is my latest addiction!

Artists I like...
I love the work of so many different artists. Tomma Abts, Rene Magritte and Jan Weenix are current favourites.
