Kara Chatten
Head of Audience Development
Role at Axis
As my job title suggests, my focus is on you - the Axis audience!
I am particularly interested in gathering audience opinion and ensuring that what we do centres on the people in the UK contemporary art world, who most benefit from our services.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, I devise and implement (along with my lovely colleagues) the Audience Development Strategy. I also produce the promotional materials and communications you receive from us.
Background
I have been at Axis since 2007, when I moved to Leeds and embraced the north.
Before this I worked for Ipswich Borough Council where I was Arts Project Officer at The Town Hall Galleries (previously Wolsey Art Gallery) organising and promoting the temporary exhibitions programme.
I have an MA in Gallery Studies from the University of Essex (2001) and BA (Hons) History of Art from the University of Bristol (2000).
Website I like . . .
Ashamed to say Facebook but have to admit that I use it personally because I’m incredibly nosey and professionally to reach a huge amount of people across the world and show them the Axis way!
Most useful technology . . .
I am particularly addicted to my iPhone (probably quite antisocially but I’m working on it…)
At Axis I'm best known for . . .
Talking mainly but I can’t help myself! I’m just not keen on the sound of everyone frantically typing away at their keyboards – lost in the virtual world!
