This work was originally installed as a site specific installation for The Market Estate Project, London 2010 (Flat 51). Drawing on the imminent demolition of the building and images of the recent hurricane in Haiti, the work explored the power of growth and destruction, questioning the solidity and permanence of the building and our notions of security in relation to our environment.
In light of the recent natural and environmental disasters in New Zealand and Japan the current installation of the work at Cafe Gallery Projects London (Sept 2011) reflects on the questions and emotions that such events evoke, in particular the great sense of instability both physical and psychological.
Carefully integrated into the gallery space, The Inhabitant interacts directly with the architecture transforming the potential of the space both within and beyond its walls. It is both humorous and confrontational.
