A Place Beneath the Surface, 2010

This project explores altered states, concentrating on a real experience similar to daydreaming, that of hypnosis. An interest in internal thought processes began when a family member developed epilepsy, prior to a fit they often suffered 'petit mal', a staring spell of 20- 30 seconds caused by a brief disturbance of brain function and most commonly called an 'absence seizure'. Every detail in these portraits has been thoroughly considered and the images take on the appearance of a fashion story, however focus is always on the moment, a place between consciousness and sleep.
