Sun Shadow, 1998

This Sun Shadow was made over 6 hours in a building that was to be demolished the next day. This time I used pencil rather than the lumber crayon that was used in previous Shadows. This reflected the nature and quality of the sunlight that day. Some clouds were in the sky which gave the light a softer edge and the pencil allowed me to wander the surface of the wall whilst the light constantly faded, in anticipation of the light's reappearance. Literally, after my last documentary photograph the bulldozer rolled up to the door. That night I saw fragments of this drawing as I picked at the rubble, thinking in vain that I could piece it back together again. For a more detailed description of my Sun Shadow series please refer to the other Sun Shadow work. The series is ongoing.
