Matt Gee

Sandy Mother of Pearl remix, 2011

The pearl clam was in its original state, apart from a few cracks and chips around the outside. One inch has been sliced from the bottom in order for the clam to stand by itself.

The main intervention of the clam is that one side has been sandblasted with stone effect spray, except for a 2 cm wide line that has been masked off along the whole edge. This creates a pearly iridescent line that glistens and catches the light like a necklace would, and after a full 180 degree rotation the uncovered side of the clam is revealed, allowing the viewer to see both the man-made covered side, and the natural side.
