I was commissioned by Vision4Southam to create a landmark sculpture linked to the Holy Well Trail commission, to be placed in the town centre. The sculpture, entitled Southam Stories incorporates thirty woodcarvings in the form of circular ‘bosses’, designed and carved by nearly one hundred children and adults from the community. These carvings were the end result of an extensive oral history project I set up and ran in all four of the towns schools, exploring some of the multitude of stories that go to make up the life of the town. All the designs are thematically and visually linked, taking the idea of the eye seeing and reflecting the world around about. These ‘eye’ forms are found in the gate posts and seat I made for the Southam Holy Well Trail, as well as in Southam Stories. An A5 booklet entitled 'Southam Stories' has been published to celebrate the project. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, It was designed by the artist and produced by Stratford District Council. The booklet is available free of charge at Southam Library.
