Tyne Line of Txt Flow (2005), Skinner Burn, Thornton Square, Newcastle upon Tyne
Carol Sommer, Sue Downing and W.N. Herbert
A public art commission juxtaposing and overlaying contrasting site specific messages; Roman text excavated locally, researched printed text retrieved from the time of King Charles I and text messages collected at the site on the day of the Newcastle v Sunderland derby in 2002 at the beginning of the project. Marking the invisible course of the hidden Skinner Burn, the 140 metre long stainless steel piece visually reflects and fuses together the linear topographic history of the designated geographical area.
