About the Size of Wales
This work was made during an artist’s residency in Wales and explores the relationship between the Welsh mythology, cultural identity and the visual residues found the landscape. It is an on going project aiming to establish to what degree the influence of Welsh mythology has on contemporary life in Wales. The images explore how mythology has been co-opted as a strong part of the national identity and I hope clarify how stories and characters have been manipulated and memorialised to political ends. I’m interested in the universality of storytelling, as well as the eclecticism that characterises it; the way it unites humanity through the common motifs and themes that recur such as the thwarted love, the hero, the villain and the fantastical.
