OBJECTS OF DESIRE: 8 "Yesterday's Tomorrows Hold a Large Pinch of Deja-Vu" [Jaques Derrida], 2010 - 2011
A tag/title hold the direct clue to the premise behind this composition. This work is about the cyclical nature of "life's journey" as 'art-maker' and is presented as a 'given'.
A cloth and porcelain figurine, with attached wings from two species of birds, is surrounded by random fishing equipment and a pair of travelling- scales. From a Feminist perspective the idea of "DEJA-VU" remains dominant culturally: sexuality and creativity are intractably bonded together. What would be the 'deja-vu' aspect of this concept if any part of this composition was removed?
