Flora Gare

Treloars butterfly, 2011

Students from Treloars college worked with artist Flora Gare earlier this year to create
individual butterflies to form this large
installation as a centrepiece for the Hackwood Arts Festival.

The students experimented with using transparent
glass paints and fine ink pens on clear acetate.
They also mixed collage and painting with digital
images printing onto ink jet film; contrasting
mechanical images and patterns with the organic form of the butterfly. Flora then arranged all of the butterflies to fit inside a giant butterfly form which is suspended above the exhibition space. Their bright colour's and delicate patterns show the students skill’s in drawing and
experimenting with mixing and layering colour.
