Binformation, - 2008

Sublimation print on polyester heat fused onto digital print on cotton.
'Binformation’ considers what new geology might be formed from the cocktail of ingredients disposed of in our landfill sites.
Crystal shaped formations created from photographs taken of the contents of household kitchen bins have been superimposed onto an image of rock strata. The surface of the work contrasts a natural cotton background with a synthetic material associated with contemporary waste. The repetitive pattern reinforces the scale of intervention in the environment and urges reflection on the disposal of waste while at the same time holding out the possibility of our 21st century detritus being reborn long after our demise as the gemstones of the future.
