Commissioned by developer Argent and Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group, as part of a large-scale 5-phase development central Manchester, impacting on an area of major regeneration in the Creative Northern Quarter of the city.
The art work is the pedestrian entrance to the car park of the Piccadilly Place development. Here we created an eight-metre square structure clad in glass. The ‘Ice box’ is a living, changeable piece of art. Responding to its immediate environment; a passerby in the morning will later come back to a completely transformed perspective. The Ice Box uses state-of-the-art technology so has a very contemporary look but at the same time the human touch is added in the hand drawn detail and so a link is created with the audience. This is a large structure that has involved a variety of partners but carries with it a reassuring quality and an intimacy in the detail.
