Phoenix, - 2010

This work was shown at the RA Summer Exhibition 2011. Utilising the philosophic theories of Gilles Deleuze on movement and time images this work explores the crystalline process and place of the 'exchange' enacted between the actual and virtual. It is via the crystal image that a viewer's cinematic perception of an infected event ('event' as a perceptive act) occurs. Spasms of visual editing resonate aurally and pass through different planes vibrating at the threshold of the cinematic form. There is a false continuity of repeating difference within the form of the bird and the surrounding liquid whose surface dynamics mimic the haunting quality of the soundtrack.
