Golden Threads Denmark, 2010

A research fellowship to find out about artist practice in Denmark. Our specific research questions were: How do artist-parents in Denmark support themselves financially? How do they balance parenting and artistic practice? What is the impact of this on their practice? Our two children went with us, and part of the challenge of the trip was finding ways to make the visits to galleries and artists' studios relevant to them as well as to us. The image was taken during a visit to the studio of Karen Land Hansen. Karen brought out a box of materials including some casters she used in a piece called 'Atlantic Wall Monument'. Our daughters both wanted to attach the castors to their feet. The fellowship is recorded in more detail as a blog: goldenthreadsdenmark.wordpress.com
