Functional Distress, 2005

'Functional distress'. The work references Peter Eisenman's 'Wexner Centre' a project that has now become synonymous with deconstructivist architecture. Eisenman's work explored the process of a constant state of becoming without the possibility of achieving a final resolution. The title of this installation reflects the conflict between the sculptural and functionality and is ironic as the work almost operates as a sun screen being located in a large window space. The work was evolved using the theme of digital technology as it is used in architecture today and a 3D animation was created by Architen Landrell Ltd design team .
